Kolkata Knight Riders pip Pune Supergiants by two wickets

Pune, Apr 24 : Suryakumar Yadav‘s 49-ball 60 was the backbone of the Kolkata Knight Riders‘ (KKR) run chase as they afraid down Rising Pune Supergiants’ 160/5 with 2 wickets and 3 balls to spare during a closely-fought Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Maharashtra Cricket Association construction here on Sunday.


With the win, KKR go atop the points table with four wins from 5 matches.


Kolkata Knight RidersYusuf Pathan (36) and Andre Russell (17) were the opposite major contributors for KKR. Albie Morkel and Rajat Bhatia picked up 2 wickets every for the hosts.


Chasing a target of 161, KKR got off to a unfortunate begin as Robin Uthappa was adjudged leg-before-wicket off Albie’s terribly initial delivery of the innings.


But then skipper Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar got along to place on a breezy 31-run partnership of simply a pair of.3 overs.


Unluckily for KKR, Gambhir was run out as he misjudged a double. His desperate dive to form the bottom wasn’t enough as Mahendra Singh Dhoni took the bails off during a flash.


But the guests unbroken the board ticking at a speedy pace and with six overs gone, they were 59/2.


Shakib Al Hasan (3) then played on a Rajat Bhatia delivery within the next over that helped Pune pull back things a bit.


KKR thenceforth managed simply nineteen runs until the tenth over.


But then Suryakumar and Pathan, who finally found some rhythm within the competition, placed on a pacy 51-run partnership. Pathan hit 2 vast sixes on the way to his thirty six then again was trapped right ahead of the stumps by Rajat.
